Summer Missions FAQ

What do Summer Missionaries do?

Summer Missionaries will serve guests at Bambi Lake by assisting on the waterfront, in the cafeteria, housekeeping and other duties assigned by Bambi Supervisors. They might help with landscaping and maintenance projects, serve guests at the Mini-Golf and Fishing shack, or be available at the Registration Desk.

Do Summer Missionaries lead conferences or work with children?

Summer Missionaries are not responsible for leading conference activities or serving as camp counselors. However, they will be in contact with children and youth in the cafeteria, shops and recreation areas. They must be able to observe children and keep their safety in mind. Summer Missionaries have permission to intervene with an attitude of patience and kindness if they observe a young guest disobeying rules, damaging Bambi resources, or endangering their own safety or that of another guest.

Can I go home to visit my family on the weekends? Can they come visit me?

Summer events are scheduled for both weekdays and weekends, so Summer Missionaries will be scheduled to work during part of the weekends. To be fair, Summer Missionaries are not allowed to return home for visits. Families are welcome to visit on weekends when no conferences are scheduled (about twice over the summer.)

Will I get to do fun stuff?

When no conferences are scheduled, Bambi Lake staff will be happy to take Summer Missionaries on day-trips to area attractions and amusements. In the past, Summer Missionaries have been taken off site or into their homes.

How much do I get paid?

Summer Missionaries receive $100 for every week of service. They receive $20 per week for spending money and the rest is provided at the end of the summer.

Do I have to buy my own food?

Summer Missionaries have most of their meals whenever a conference meal is provided in the cafeteria. Groceries will be provided so students may prepare their own meals when the cafeteria is closed. When Summer Missionaries are off-campus, meals will be purchased for them. Summer Missionaries are responsible for buying their own snacks, junk food, treats from the snack shop or personal items.

Where will I go to Church?

We believe spiritual growth is a critical component of the Summer Missions program. The staff at Bambi Lake will take Summer Missionaries to church along with them (Roscommon Baptist Church). However, they also may be asked to speak at other churches in area associations. Transportation will be provided. Daily devotions also will take place with Bambi Lake staff.

Can I Drive my Car? Does Bambi Lake provide vehicles for Summer Missionaries to use?

If you have a valid Michigan Driver's License and your own vehicle, you can bring it and drive it when events are not currently going on. Only Bambi Lake staff are allowed to drive Bambi's vehicles.
